DClinPsy Application Deadlines 2026/27: Key Dates and What to Do Now

By Dr Melody Smith, Clinical Psychologist

With the DClinPsy application deadline approaching, many aspiring clinical psychologists will be finding themselves somewhere between drafting, reviewing and refining their applications. Perhaps you’ve already written several versions of your reflective statement, received feedback from colleagues or spent time deciding which courses best suit your interests and circumstances. But as attention turns towards the final stages of writing, there is something equally important that can be surprisingly easy to overlook.

The Leeds Clearing House application process involves several important deadlines, and understanding how these fit together can help you plan the remaining weeks more effectively. Following our fourth annual DClinPsy Application Writing Retreat, I wanted to bring together the key dates for the 2026/27 application cycle, alongside some reflections on making the most of the time you have left.

21 October 2026: The Early Application Discount

The first date to be aware of is Wednesday 21 October 2026.

Applicants who submit their completed application and pay the processing fee by this date will qualify for a £15 discount, paying £20 rather than the usual £35.

If you’re reading this before the early deadline, it might be worth considering whether your application is ready for submission.

However, I would encourage you to think carefully before rushing to meet this date. Saving £15 may be helpful, but allowing yourself sufficient time to produce an application that meaningfully represents your experiences and development may be more important.

18 November 2026: The Main DClinPsy Application Deadline

The main deadline is Wednesday 18 November 2026 at 1:00 pm UK time.

Importantly, this is an afternoon deadline, rather than midnight.

By this point, your application must have been submitted through the Leeds Clearing House website.

Although there’s still time to refine your writing, I’d encourage you to develop a realistic plan for the remaining weeks. Consider which sections genuinely need further attention and which might already communicate what you’re hoping to convey.

One question worth asking yourself is whether your application demonstrates what you’ve learnt from your experiences, rather than simply describing what you’ve done.

For example, discussing your involvement in multidisciplinary working can be valuable. But exploring how this influenced your understanding of professional boundaries, communication, power or collaborative practice may provide a more meaningful reflection.

Remember that you are applying to train as a clinical psychologist. Your application should reflect your potential for development, alongside the knowledge and capabilities you’ve already acquired.

4 December 2026: Suitability Statements Deadline

Another important date is Friday 4 December 2026.

This is the deadline for your academic and relevant-experience suitability statements.

Although it falls after the main application deadline, I would strongly recommend communicating with your nominated individuals well in advance.

Think about whether they have sufficient knowledge of your abilities, development and professional experiences to provide meaningful comments.

Leeds Clearing House contacts nominees when their details are entered into your application, even before you’ve submitted it. It’s therefore important to check that they’re willing to provide a statement before adding their information.

Once your nominees have submitted their statements, you can check their status through your Application Overview page.

What If You Still Have Supporting Documents to Provide?

You may also be wondering what happens if certain supporting documents aren’t available before the application deadline.

Leeds Clearing House advises applicants to submit their application by 18 November, even when some documents are outstanding, and to provide these as soon as possible.

Depending on your circumstances, this might include evidence of Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC), English language test results or course-specific documentation.

However, individual courses may have additional requirements, so make sure you’ve reviewed the expectations of each programme you’ve selected.

What Happens After You’ve Submitted?

Between November 2026 and January 2027, Clearing House releases applications to individual course centres.

The final batch is scheduled for release by 29 January 2027.

Courses then undertake their shortlisting processes, with selection tests taking place between December and mid-March.

For NHS-funded places, the main dates that follow are:

  • 2 April 2027: Deadline for courses to communicate shortlisting outcomes.
  • 22 March–28 May 2027: Interview period.
  • 4 June 2027: Deadline for courses to communicate interview outcomes.
  • 11 June 2027 at 2:00 pm UK time: Deadline for responding to offers.

Of course, individual courses have their own selection procedures. It’s worth familiarising yourself with these so you understand what to expect.

Making the Most of the Remaining Weeks

At this stage, it can be tempting to keep revisiting every sentence, searching for the perfect way to communicate your experience.

However, reflection is rarely about finding a perfect answer.

It’s about demonstrating curiosity, recognising complexity and developing an awareness of how your experiences have influenced the way you understand yourself, others and psychological practice.

As you continue preparing, consider whether additional revisions are genuinely strengthening your application or whether you might benefit from stepping away and returning with a fresh perspective.

Seeking feedback can be helpful, but remember to evaluate that feedback rather than automatically incorporating every suggestion. Your application should still feel representative of you.

Final Thoughts

The final weeks before submitting a DClinPsy application can bring a mixture of excitement, uncertainty and pressure. Whatever stage you’re at, remember that your application represents a snapshot of your professional development, rather than the entirety of who you are or what you’re capable of becoming. Give yourself time to reflect, make thoughtful decisions about where to focus your energy and recognise the work you’ve already undertaken. Whether this is your first application or you’ve applied before, there is value in approaching the process with curiosity, compassion and an appreciation of your continued growth.

All dates are based on the official Leeds Clearing House Dates to Remember for applications submitted in 2026 for training beginning in autumn 2027. Applicants should check the official website for updates
